General Information about data access at the TU Delft

Read this section for general information about the data services and possibilities at the Delft University of Technology.

With this data access facility you can access, sync and share documents stored on your network drives at the Delft University of Technology.

Web interface

You can access & Share your files using the webinterface available at https://filr.tudelft.nl.

Mobile devices

You can access & Share documents on your mobile devices like Phones & Tablets using the Novell Filr app from your app store.

Sync Client

You can sync your files to and from your local drive using the Filr desktop client.https://filr.tudelft.nl.

WebDrive

You can stil access your files using WebDrive after reconfiguration of your client to use SFTP instead of WebDav.

Web Interface

Step 1 Open a browser and surf to https://filr.tudelft.nl.

Step 2 Log in with your NetID and password.

Step 3 The home screen of Novell Filr Web Interface displays the following elements:

1. A list of all the employees and students at the Delft University of Technology.
2. What's New-section.
3. Actions that you can perform on files and folders.
4. Your home folder.
5. Files and folders that have been shared with you.
6. Files and folders that have been shared by you.
7. Files and folders stored on the network drives at the Delft University of Technology. You can only see the files and folders you have access to.

Mobile Devices

With Novell Filr you can access, sync and share documents stored on your network drives at the Delft University of Technology.

If you wish to install the App now, select your operating system below and follow the instructions.

Windows Android

In this manual we explain how to install the Novell Filr app on your Android device. Your Android device requires a working internet connection.
Step 1. Go to the Play Store.

Sync Client

With the Novell Filr Desktop App you synchronize folders stored on your network drives at the Delft University of Technology and files and folders that have been shared with you to your workstation for offline use.

If you wish to install the desktop app now select your operating system below and follow the instructions.

Here we explain how to download, install Novell Filr Desktop App and how to configure it for the first time. The manual consists of three parts:

  • Downloading the setup for Novell Filr Desktop App
  • Installing Novell Filr Desktop App on Windows workstations
  • Configure Novell Filr Desktop App for the first time

Download Windows Client

Step 1. Open a browser and surf to https://filr.tudelft.nl.
Step 2. Log in with your NetID and password.

Step 3. Click on your name at the top-right of the home screen of Novell Filr.
Step 4. Click on Download Filr Desktop App.

Login

Step 5. Click on Windows x86 Client if you have the 32-bit version of Windows 7 or 8+. Click on Windows x64 Client if you have the 64-bit version of Windows 7 or 8+.

Login

Install Windows Client

Step 1. Run (as an administrator) the NovellFilrSetup-(bit-version)(version_number).exe after the download has completed.

 

Step 2. Click on Yes if you get a pop-up window from User Account Control.
Step 3. Click on Install.

Step 4. Read the license terms and conditions. Check the checkbox next to I agree to the license terms and conditions if you agree to it and click on Install.

Step 5. Click on Close.

Step 6. The Wizard Setup van Novell Filr will be started. Click on Volgende

Step 7. Read the license terms and conditions. Check the checkbox next to Ik ga akkoord met de voorwaarden in de overeenkomst if you agree to it and click on Volgende.

Step 8. Click on Volgende.

Step 9. Click on Installeren.

Step 10. Click on Voltooien.

Configure Windows Client

Step 1. The Filr Desktop App will start to configure it for the first time. Click on Start.

Step 2. Specify the following information and click on Next.

Username: your NetID

Password: your password

Remember password: Select this option to have the Filr desktop application remember your password.

Server URL: https://filr.tudelft.nl.

Step 3. In the Folders to Sync-section, notice that files in your My Files and Shared with Me folders are synchronized by default. Click on Add if you want to synchronize specific folders that are stored on your network drives at the Delft University of Technology or files and folders that have been shared with you. Otherwise click on Next and proceed to step.

Step 4. Navigate to and click the Download icon next to the files and folders that you want to synchronize, then click OK.

Step 5. Click on Next when you are done adding files and folders that you want to synchronize.

Step 6. Read the warning and click on Continue.

Step 7. Specify the following information and click on Next.

Filr Folder: Click Browse if you want to change the location of the files and folders that you want to synchronize or keep the default location.

Start Novell Filr at login: Keep this option selected to have the Filr desktop application start when you turn on your workstation.

Step 8. Click on Finish. The Filr Desktop App is now running and the Filr icon is visible in the notification area.

OSX Mac OS X

Here we explain how to download, install Novell Filr Desktop App and how to configure it for the first time. The manual consists of three parts:

Download Mac OS X Client

Step 1. Open a browser and surf to https://filr.tudelft.nl.

 

Step 2. Log in with your NetID and password.

Step 3. Click on your name at the top-right of the home screen of Novell Filr.
Step 4. Click on Download Filr Desktop App.

Step 5. Click on iOS X Client.

Install Mac OS X Client

Step 1. Double click NovellFilr-(version_number) after the download has completed.
Step 2. Click on Continue.

Step 3. Read the license terms and conditions. Check the checkbox next to I agree to the license terms and conditions if you agree to it and click on Continue.

Step 4. Click on Agree.

Step 5. The Wizard Setup van Novell Filr will be started. Click on Install.

Step 6. Fill in your computer administrator account and password. Click on Install Software.

Step 7. After the installation was successful, click on Close.

Configure Mac OS X Client

Step 1. Start Novell Filr from Applications. Click on Start.

Step 2. Specify the following information and click on Next.

Username: your NetID

Password: your password

Remember password: Select this option to have the Filr desktop application remember your password.

Server URL: https://filr.tudelft.nl.

Step 3. In the Folders to Sync-section, notice that files in your My Files and Shared with Me folders are synchronized by default. Click on Add if you want to synchronize specific folders that are stored on your network drives at the Delft University of Technology or files and folders that have been shared with you. Otherwise click on Next and proceed to step.

WebDrive

With the WebDrive application you can mount your network drives at the Delft University of Technology to a your workstation for access from remote locations.

If you wish to install the WebDrive application now select your operating system below and follow the instructions.

Windows Windows

In this manual we explain how to install and configure a network connection with the TU Delft file-server. The manual consists of two parts:

  • Downloading and installing Webdrive on Windows
  • Configuring Webdrive with SFTP (SHH)

 

Download and install Webdrive

Download You can download WebDrive from: http://blackboard.tudelft.nl. When downloading, make sure you download the correct version for your Windows operating system.

Step 1 Open the location where you have downloaded the file. Double-click the Webdrive installation file. This will start the installation setup.
Step 2 Click Next.

Step 3 Accept the License Agreement terms and click Next.

Step 4 Click Next.

Step 5 Click Install.

Step 6 Click Finish to complete the installation. The software is now installed on your computer.
Step 7 A pop-up window appears with a message that you have to restart the computer. Click Yes. The computer restarts. When Windows starts, automatically Webdrive will start. If it doesn’t start, start WebDrive manually.

Step 8 Click on Help / Info. In this window you can activate the license.

Step 9 Select License Information, click Activate License.

Step 10 Click Activate License.

Step 10 In this window you can enter the license key. The license key is located on blackboard. Click Finish. The license is now activated, click OK.

Configure SFTP Webdrive

Step 1 Open webdrive. In this window, click New

Step 2 In this window, Select SFTP (SSH). Now you add a new server connection. Click Next.

Step 3 Click Advanced Settings.

Step 4 In this window you can type the Site Name , URL / Address and Account information.

In the field Username type your netid. (without extra’s)

In the field Password type your(netid)password.

Check the Connect at login/Startup (user prefrence)

Step 5 Click SFTP Settings on the left menu bar.

In the Root Directory field type the Root directory of you deparment. In this example we use: staff-bulk\bk. Set the SFTP version to Version 3. Click OK.

Step 6 When done you are able to connect and acces the Network Location.

OSX MAC OS

The following instructions are supported by the TU Delft and have been tested to be working. However, we offer this manual to you as an extra service. In case you have a configuration or version of OSX other than the one described here and you have problems using WebDrive, neither ICT nor a Servicepoint will be able to help you to use webdrive.

Mac OSX 10.11 is not yet supported by the webdrive software, there are other solutions (use "GO" menu or use cyberduck)

 

In this manual we explain how to install and configure a network connection with the TU Delft file-server. The manual consists of two parts:

  • Configuring Webdrive with SFTP (SHH)

 

Download and install Webdrive

Download You can download WebDrive from: blackboard. And open the downloaded .dmg

Step 1 Open the WebDrive.pkg file inside the .dmg.

Step 2 Click Continue.

Step 3 Accept the agreement by clicking Continue.

Step 4 Click Install.

Step 5 Fill in your system username and password.

Step 6 Finish the installation and click Close.

Configure SFTP Webdrive

Step 1 Open WebDrive, choose Enter Registration Code, copy the Code from blackboard and select Activate.

Step 2 A pop-up will appear requesting OSXFUSE to be installed. Choose Yes.

Step 3 Click Continue.

Step 4 Click Continue and then Agree.

Step 5 Click Continue.

Step 6 Click Install.

Step 7 Fill in your system Password and Install.

Step 8 Click Close.

Step 9 Click the + Icon in the WebDrive application..

Step 10 Select SFTP Server and Click Next.

Step 11 Fill in sftp.tudelft.nl your netid and password WITHOUT @tudelft.nl. Click Advanced.

Step 12 In the Connection Settings, copy the following settings:

Step 13 In SFTP Settings set the Protocol version to 3.

Step 14 Copy the following settings and click close.

Step 15 Give the profile a name and click Save.

Step 16 Doubleclick the profile to mount the Drive.

OSX Linux

The following instructions are supported by the TU Delft and have been tested to be working. However, we offer this manual to you as an extra service. In case you have a configuration or version of linux other than the one described here and you have problems using WebDrive, neither ICT nor a Servicepoint will be able to help you to use webdrive.

 

Here you can access your Windows home directory, group shares and other cross-platform data.

 

Settings Nautilus (GNOME)

Click File -> Connect to Server
Select SSH
Server: sftp.tudelft.nl
Port: 22
Folder: Leave empty
Username: Your-NetID
Add bookmark: Optional, to reconnect

Settings Konqueror (KDE)

In the address bar enter: sftp://sftp.tudelft.nl
Username: Your-NetID

Settings Command line SFTP

sftp sftp.tudelft.nl
Username: Your-NetID

Settings SSHFS (mount)

Make sure you have sshfs installed and that the target_mount_point is available (for instance /mnt/)
Then, on the command line, enter the following command: sshfs (NetID) @sftp.tudelft.nl: target_mount_point
